Calling All Third Year Nursing Students

I recently attended an expo at a local university where third-year nursing students were presenting their assignments to a first-year student audience.

The theme of the projects was simple: “What would you have wanted to know as a first-year nursing student?”

Each group had developed an innovative way to share their insights with students just beginning their nursing journey. There were interactive games, flyers and handouts, AI-generated platforms, QR codes to resources, and even a spinning wheel designed to engage the audience and make learning more memorable and practical.

As part of their presentations, the students also explained why they chose their particular topic and how their idea could support and guide those starting out in nursing.

After listening to several presentations, I asked the groups a question: what happens to all of these ideas once the assignment is finished?

Most of the students gave a similar response — to their knowledge, the projects are assessed, graded, and then largely put away.

It was hard not to think about the potential speaking with these students. These were thoughtful, creative resources designed by students who had recently experienced the same challenges first-years are facing today. Challenges that those of us who have been in the the industry a long time, sometimes (or often!) forget.

So, at Career Collective we are introducing “The Student Voice” and we want to showcase your ideas.

Don’t put those projects away, let’s give them a platform to reach anyone thinking about, or just starting out in their nursing career.

“The Student Voice” will be located on the Career Collective home page as a free resource to anyone starting out on their nursing journey.

We would love to hear from as many students as possible (from anywhere in the world!) with your ideas.

Research shows us that peer voices can be the most powerful and can have the greatest impact…so third years - let’s hear them!
